Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about DSC Board & Train dog training in Hudson, FL and the Tampa Bay area.

How does Board & Train work?

Your dog lives with a professional DSC trainer for the duration of the program. Your dog receives daily, hands-on training in real-world environments. When your dog goes home, we teach you everything your dog learned and how to maintain it.

Where is Dark Shadows Canine located?

DSC is based in Hudson, Florida. We serve dog owners throughout Pasco County, Hernando County, and the greater Tampa Bay area.

What areas does DSC serve?

We serve Hudson, Spring Hill, New Port Richey, Trinity, Land O' Lakes, Wesley Chapel, Pasco County, Hernando County, Tampa Bay, and surrounding Florida communities. We can also accommodate customers from farther away when appropriate.

How much does Board & Train cost?

Our 2-Week Puppy Program is $2,500, the 4-Week On-Leash Board & Train is $4,500, and the 6-Week Off-Leash Board & Train is $6,500. Custom programs for service dogs, therapy dogs, and aggression rehabilitation are priced based on the dog's needs.

How long will my dog stay?

Program lengths range from 2 weeks for puppies to 6 weeks for off-leash obedience. Aggression and behavior modification cases may require longer customized programs. We'll recommend the right length during your evaluation.

Will I receive updates?

Yes. We provide updates throughout your dog's stay so you can see the progress your dog is making.

Does DSC train puppies?

Yes. Our 2-Week Puppy Board & Train program is designed for puppies 8 to 16 weeks old. We build foundation behaviors, crate training, socialization, and household manners.

Does DSC work with reactive dogs?

Yes. We specialize in behavior modification for reactive dogs, including leash reactivity, barrier frustration, and dog-to-dog reactivity. See our reactive dog training page for more information.

Does DSC work with aggressive dogs?

Yes. We work with human-directed aggression, dog aggression, and bite history cases. Each case is evaluated individually before acceptance. See our aggressive dog training page for more information.

Will my dog learn off-leash obedience?

Yes. Our 6-Week Off-Leash Board & Train teaches reliable recall, distance commands, and off-leash obedience using fair e-collar conditioning.

Does DSC use e-collars?

Yes, when appropriate. We use e-collars as a communication tool, not a punishment device. We condition the collar at low levels so your dog understands it as a cue. The e-collar gives you off-leash communication at any distance.

What happens when my dog comes home?

We conduct a go-home session where we teach you everything your dog learned, how to communicate with your dog, and how to maintain the training. You'll have the tools and knowledge to keep your dog on track.

Will I learn how to maintain the training?

Yes. Owner education is a critical part of every program. We teach you the same communication system your dog learned so you can maintain the training at home.

Does DSC provide pickup and drop-off?

We offer flexible transport options including air cargo, ground transport, or private travel with a DSC trainer. We'll discuss the best option for your location.

What should I send with my dog?

Food, vaccination records, and any comfort items. We provide a detailed packing list before your dog arrives so you know exactly what to bring.
